The 21-mile paved trail was built along the abandoned railway bed that extends from the City of Banks, Oregon, north to the City of Vernonia. Now that the whole trail has been paved, it offers less of an appeal to hikers than during the years of the trail's initial development when the entire central section was a walk along an abandoned rail bed. The trail is a “rails to trails” bike path that follows the old railroad bed all the way from Banks to Vernonia, a distance of over 21 miles one‐way.
